Who the heck are they? sokovian aristocrat who was apparently bored enough to enlist in the military despite living an exceptionally comfortable life of wealth and nobility. climbed ranks to colonel to command an elite sokovian death squad, as one does, and then finds himself a nice, relaxing hobby in committing crime with a smarmy little cat smile fixed on his face.

Open to and/or searching for ships? those fatws castmates! i confess a deep and unbridled ferality for zemo/bucky in particular and all the mindfucking, power play, and infatuation that comes with it. i'm all about those hannigram vibes and i'm fixated on their mutual understanding and evolving moral codes. but i'm not a monster so rest assured i will never push a ship and assume gen unless proven otherwise.
What specific things are you interested in writing? zemo's uneasy alliance with sam, bucky and sharon whilst eating and drinking constantly added YEARS to my life so anything along those lines is 👌. banging around madripoor, covert operations, personal quests/missions, discussions of morality and mortality, quid pro quo exchanges with other powerful people, allowing people he deigns worthy to accompany him on a luxurious jaunt across the world, etc etc. am also, like, WAY too interested in a thunderbolts au or post-canon fatws divergence or what ifs. what if he's asked by his captors to provide information? what if he finds himself in an arrangement to aid on a mission in order to reduce the severity of his sentence? anyway, if you want a weirdly in depth discussion about ethics and politics with your character, i'm ya boy.
What things are you not interested in? pure villainy. fatws developed zemo beyond the patient and calculated chess player he was in civil war, and that's the path i'd like to keep him on. i'm not interested in ill-intentioned manipulation, double crossing, non- and dubcon, etc. but playful jaunts on the wrong side of the law are a-okay!

i would like you to know that i just spent some time trying to decide what type pokemon zemo would be. i haven't arrive at a conclusion but we do at least know zemo is in his second evolution phase and i'm keen on manifesting his final form.

uhhhhhhhh, domestic + kink, HELLO?? we speak the very same language. there's something about zemo knowing absolutely everything about bucky and being drawn to him because of it. how uneasy that makes bucky in all its implications (he can be wanted? even knowing who he is, what he's done? POWERFUL.), how much zemo delights in it. how the kink is about power and trust, that zemo gives trust fairly willingly, considering, which forces bucky to have to accept that someone wants to be close to him and cares about him. neither zemo nor bucky are delicate so they don't have to pretend to dance around anything. add to this all the providing zemo apparently likes to do and this is all, just. ship dynamic shit that gets me out of bed in the morning, man. arthur fist clench dot jpg.

man, i love this about their dynamic sfm it's absurd. i'm a longtime bucky stan myself which makes it very fun for me to read into his psychology with zemo. it's like bucky's like: here are all these boxes of my trauma that are very tightly packed and zemo's like ah yes, where is my tac knife? and opens them strategically whether bucky wants it or not. THE KICKER, I THINK, is that zemo's not doing this for power or leverage but out of genuine curiosity and interest.

oh man so zemo landed firmly on my radar thanks to fatws and i loved their complicated dynamic there so much, and everything in your to-write list sounds absolutely delicious (mission shenanigans! slow-burn redemption while also toying with each other?? snarking @ each other in sokovian, ok).

i've never tried writing against a zemo yet, but i'd love to take a crack at it! and could probably ship it tbh with the right development, i didn't think it would be my bag but then i read your comment and was like "haha but wait... unless......?? 👀"

THIS IS STUFF I LOVE TO HEAR!! i am BESIDE myself with what the series did with zemo's character, and then i get the added bonus of his dynamic with sambucky and i'm just like. INJECTED with life.

is absolutely EVERYTHING. I. EVER. WANTED??? this is what i want for them. i want bucky to try and relieve the enormous burden of guilt on his shoulders and i want to see it onscreen. i want him to be of service like sam suggested by going out into the world and trying to right some wrongs using the power he has, and if it takes zemo's wealth and access to facilitate it, then so be it. that's the two of them rehabilitating together, that's zemo demonstrating to bucky how to live in freedom, that's bucky showing zemo how to be humbled by pain and trauma. that's these two men who have committed atrocities to utilize their (frankly really similar) skillsets of overthrowing/destabilizing/assassination for good, and what that effect that might have on each of their restless, tortured souls.

i love this so much. i will write this regardless. and if through such missions they find a rapport and become a ship, well. i will have successfully proselytized my winterbaron agenda.

yr doing the lord's work, wandering the streets and passing out informational winterbaron literature :') but uGH i literally outright clapped my hands in delight at this whole comment, this is my JAM!! also like: with the fact that HYDRA explicitly orchestrated (and then benefited from) the sokovian riots that the maximoffs took part in, i have a slight headcanon that the winter soldier helped destabilise sokovia w/ some key political assassinations here & there, which could also be a point of contention/bitterness?

and ok so putting on my thinking cap for a starter i could just blindly fling at you, for a slightly canon-divergent scene idea what if: before zemo crossed his name off the list, they're still adventuring together on covert HYDRA-hunting missions, now holed up in one of zemo's hundred different luxurious pied-a-terres; bucky wanders out for a late-night drink and finds zemo flipping through the notebook and seeing certain sokovian names there, and so there's a combination of complicated big mad feelings on both sides but also bitterness/understanding and idk discussions about guilt and inadvertently bonding over the fact that they both hate that organisation So Much

(and just getting to dig deeper into that idea of zemo prying into the notebook and him blindly offering that forgiveness anyway, bc i just. loved that)

thank you. i would say i need to print more pamphlets because i've put in a lot of work pushing my agenda lately but i am, in actuality, a walking winterbaron propaganda machine and therefore cannot be constrained by the medium of paper.

GOOD GOOD, we are clearly of similar minds here in terms of the broader context zemo and bucky exist in, which is unironically one of my favorite parts about these characters. I LOVE THIS SO MUCH, i'm VERY VERY ALL ABOUT this idea that bucky had had a hand in political destabilization in sokovia where zemo undoubtedly had a hand in doing the same in sokovia's favor instead. i wish we knew more about mcu sokovia's fictional history because that's the kind of pedant I Am but one can imagine a small eastern european country probably has a long and storied history with its european neighbors including russia. maybe zemo has even experienced some of bucky's work firsthand in sokovia and took part in covert retaliation but never saw or met him until berlin. ugh the parallels. the tension!! (ngl, zemo might actually just respect bucky for his clean and efficient work, from one craftsman to another.) DELICIOUS!!

listen, i'm very good at improvizing so whatever you throw at me will no doubt leave me plenty of room to tl;dr with some sociopolitical/psychological context on my end. BUT UH, YES PLEASE TO ALL OF THIS?? pretending the flag smashers and/or walker problems get settled back at home, i can see zemo and bucky traveling together in a hunting party, still wary but sharing a common enemy in HYDRA. okay, maybe it's more like... bucky's wary and the baron is still fascinated and infatuated because he just is and i don't make the rules. i do feel though that zemo would mostly respect bucky's warning not to steal the book again, he could've maybe found it or is otherwise ruminating on the names he did find there. he holds no grudges for war but zemo IS probably just as fucked up by what he's had to do, so. they can go all off on each other.

DUDE BUT REALLY, their last scene together in sokovia feels like acceptance and forgiveness, doesn't it? the way zemo is so thoroughly understanding, the way he's actually empathizing quite deeply with bucky, the way bucky feels the need to demonstrate that he doesn't fit every box and label zemo's put on him, to prove that he holds multitudes just like zemo does - both killer and savior... OOF!! if i wasn't shipping it before that scene i sure as fuck was after i saw zemo roll the fuck over for anything bucky wanted to do to him. this man in the coat FULLY accepted that he was about to die by bucky's hand and was like, take me to the afterlife you sculpted angel of death!! 🙏

the strange balance does seem to be the key for them, though, doesn't it? and despite physically ruinous sex i do imagine they're able to work through emotionally difficult things with honesty and vulnerability. because who else understands the horrors they've committed but each other? and power plays are ultimately about trust, which is something bucky's sorely in need of.
